At Diamondback, we value all of our employees, and one who makes it so special is our teaching professional, John Whitty. John has been a part of our team at Diamondback now for five years. What keeps living and working in the Myrtle Beach area so appealing to him? He offers a quick and revealing chuckle at the thought.
“The weather and the golf. Predominantly the golf!”
It also helps that John gets tremendous satisfaction from his daily work duties. “The most gratifying part of my job is seeing watching the progression our junior golfers make,” he explains. “You see them when they shoot 100 and then they evolve and start shooting in the 70s.”
The biggest thing John said he sees in junior golf is attitude. He can tell when their attitude is where it needs to be, and that’s when he knows they’re ready for that next step. Junior golf is strong in the Myrtle Beach area, and we love helping them out here at Diamondback!
When asked what makes Diamondback stand out among its Highway 9 counterparts, John is quick to note that “Simply it’s the layout. Once you leave the first tee you don’t see a house the entire front 9.” He adds that with Diamondback’s feeling of just being out there in the woods playing a little golf, “That’s what makes Diamondback a really nice place to play.” We agree, John, that the peace and quiet of our layout is one thing that truly makes us unique!
However, what really makes Diamondback truly special is its people. When asked about the fellowship and camaraderie here, John enthusiastically lauds that aspect. “It’s a great group of people!” he says. “They’re always here to help if you need help.” John would certainly know that part, as he gets to interact personally with many members on a daily basis through his lesson programs.
When asked what he would tell people who were thinking about becoming members at Diamondback, John’s persuasive suggestion is pretty simple. “I’d put them in a cart and go play the front nine,” he explains. “It’s just incredible.” Once they experience that, and see the people around the clubhouse engaging in energetic post-round conversation, he’s convinced “they’ll fall in love with the place.”
Thank you, John, for the great work you do here, and helping show what truly makes Diamondback Golf Club the special place that so many have come to love and experience first-hand!
