We once again joined GM Patrick Wilkinson at Diamondback Golf Club to discuss the progress of the installation of new Sunday Bermuda greens.
“The greens have come in perfect. We’re a little over about three weeks and three days from having them as sprigs. They’ve come in really well, and we’ve already dropped the [cut] height down to .200 and right now it’s just general practices of keeping the sand on there, top-dressing regularly and trying to get the mower height down where we need to. We’re looking to get to a height of about .125 and we’ve got about 16 days to get there. I think with the weather and the way the grass is growing, we’re not going to have any trouble at all.
The greens need water and right now with our greens being fresh, they’re saying they’re not compacted, so we’re able to shed the water that we’re getting really well. The first two weeks [after sprigging] we had to run a lot of water, but [with the amount of rain] in the Myrtle Beach area since that time, we have not had to turn the water on at all. It has prevented us from getting some other things we wanted to do on the golf course done, but the greens are the most important part.
The target date is going to be August 16. We plan on having a Grand Re-opening on the 16th, 17th and 18th and we plan on having a large time on those days.”
