The Diamond Ladies Group at Diamondback Golf Club hosted its annual Divas Tournament in early October. The theme this year was “Prohibition Divas,” and as you’ll see in this video they had a great time!
Today at Diamondback Golf Course, we had the Prohibition Divas Tournament. This is an annual event that we do every year that’s nine years old, and we changed the theme on the event from when we first started the Divas, we had a “Wicked Witch Diva,” and from there, it’s went on. We’ve had the “NFL Divas,” the “Sock Hop Divas.” Last year, the “Wild, Wild West Divas,” and this year, it just had to be the “Prohibition Divas.”
This year, the women, they’re dressed up as part of the Prohibition Era with the gangster-type of look, the Bugsy Malone, Al Capone-type of thing, so that was the whole thing with this whole event today. It was the Prohibition Divas celebrating the non-alcohol era, had to bootleg it in, things of that nature. But everybody had a lot of fun.
The decorations that you see in the clubhouse were put on by our Diamond Ladies Golf League. They have a committee every year that takes the theme, and then they go all-out to decorate the best they can. And I can honestly say, this is probably one of the best jobs they’ve ever done. We’ve had whiskey barrels around, we’ve had an actual still that they made, they did decorations on the walls. The doors were covered just like you would have back in the Prohibition Era, where you have to knock to get in. Of course, the password was, “Patrick sent me.” That got you in the door today. And also, they had my picture up there as one of the most wanted villains around, $250,000 to turn me in, but nobody got me. But they did a great job with the decorations.
Oh, it was a wonderful day. This is our ninth year for Diamondback Divas. We have this tournament every year, and today our theme was Prohibition. Other than it was a glorious day, everyone had a great time. Food was great and everything, and Patrick put forth a great effort. He’s the pro here at Diamondback, and he’s really good with helping the ladies here. We have a good group.
We put on these events twice a year. We do a spring time “Nothing but Blue Skies Tournament,” and then in the fall, we always do a “Divas Tournament.” And this started just by wanting to get a group of ladies out here, “Hey, let’s get as many ladies as we can to come out, have fun, enjoy a round of golf, play a cute little game that we’ll do with that.” I think it was the step aside scramble. But after that, they get to eat and they win some prizes for it.
But we do this just because we like to do it, for one. And the other, there’s not a lot of courses down here that have ladies leagues that will do these type of things for the women, and by doing this, they come back every year. In this event, just to give you an example, we had 144 women, and this event sold out in 24 hours. From the time we sent the first email out, 24 hours later, we already had a waiting list with 36 teams. That’s how popular this thing is!
