At Diamondback we love hosting a wide variety of teams, groups, and tournaments, and among our favorites are the girls high school golf teams. For years now, Diamondback Golf Club has allowed these up-and-coming golfers to come out and fine-tune their game at our facilities. Loris and Aynor High School’s girls’ teams have been practicing at Diamondback for a couple years thanks to General Manager (and Aynor High School Girls’ Head Coach) Patrick Wilkinson.
A few weekends ago Diamondback hosted 15 teams and one individual from all over the state of South Carolina, representing schools from Hilton Head, Columbia, Lexington, and more. When asked why he provides special course access to these competitors, Wilkinson didn’t hesitate in his response: “We want to make it affordable for teams in this area to be able to practice.”
But Diamondback also goes far beyond providing course access to scholastic golfers. We also cook multiple team meals, and strive to create a comfortable environment for local high school teams to practice. Wilkinson also hopes to continue hosting some of the top-ranked high school players in the state. “Having the high school tournaments here help us out tremendously,” Wilkinson said, adding that word of the exceptional treatment we provide gets brought back home to competitors’ schools and families, making them more inclined to encourage others to join them in returning to Diamondback for future play.
Part of growing the game is allowing younger golfers in a team program to use facilities that are affordable to all teams from all areas. Wilkinson and the crew here at Diamondback Golf Club take extreme pride in working with junior golfers, and providing a great platform for them to learn and grow with the game!
