Diamondback Golf Club member Bob Diliberto considers the course to be his golf home-away-from-home for the six- to seven-month stretch he and his wife spend on the Grand Strand each year. Retired and fully available to take advantage of all Diamondback has to offer its members, he is the perfect person to discuss what makes the club extraordinary.
“This place is probably the best-kept secret in the North Myrtle Beach area,” Bob says. “People don’t realize this is out here. A lot of them don’t, and I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s been fantastic.”
On what makes his experience as a Diamondback member great, Diliberto points to the group he plays with three times a week. “There is probably 40 or 45 of us that play every single Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and you get to know people from all over, and I think we all love the fact that we all get along,” he says. “That’s the most important part of it. We’re all serious about golf, but we can also — after it’s over with — have fun, joke around. It’s family-oriented here, and I love the fact that you take golf seriously, but it’s not your whole life.”
Diliberto loves the layout at Diamondback because every hole is different, and every green is different. He explains, “You really have to be able to manufacture shots.” In addition, he notes the course is “in fantastic shape” and ownership has “put a lot of money into it the last couple years.” Bob says, “I wouldn’t play any place else.”
He added that another great aspect of his membership experience at Diamondback has been the memories he has made, citing a hole in one he made on No. 16 three years ago which netted him $1,000 through a program the course was running at the time.
For Diliberto and his wife, it’s just about feeling at home where they are – and for them, that place is Diamondback. He concludes, “I would suggest to you: Join the course. Come play!”
